Project: Protection of migrants in the Oriental region (PROMO)

Protection des migrants à l’Oriental: aimed at improving the psycho-social well-being and living together of vulnerable migrants in the city of Oujda-Berkane and Region. PROMO brings together a range of activities based on the principles of living together, interculturality and tolerance…

The association Pionniers du Changement pour le Développement et la Culture (PCDC) worked on this project in partnership with the association Maroc Solidarité Médico-Sociale (MS2), so that both partners took part in the project, each according to his or her area of expertise.

Target:

Migrants, students, young people, citizens

General objective:

Improving protection and respect for the rights of vulnerable migrants in Morocco’s Oriental region

On the one hand, the MS2 association is active in the field of psycho-social well-being; in particular, individual psychological support, coordination with care organizations and the protection of migrants. To this end, it has set up a mobile psychosocial outreach clinic for vulnerable migrants in various intervention zones. In this way, she provided referrals and counter-referrals to listening units at health centers and to member organizations of the Groupe de Travail et de Protection (GTP). MS2 was also in charge of drawing up and distributing a set of guidelines for the psycho-social care of migrants in vulnerable situations to all those involved in
protecting migrants.

On the other hand, our intervention was mainly based on the “living together” part of the project. Indeed, the activities we have overseen have been consolidated by the principles of interculturality, coordination and the integration of migrants into Moroccan society. This is how the Pionniers du Changement association came to set up the first edition of an African trade fair, whose principles are widely taken into account. In the same vein, it has set up an Oriental Migration Network (RMO) bringing together state institutions and civil society organizations involved in migration in the Oriental region. In addition, the association organized a cultural diversity campaign in schools and social gatherings bringing together Moroccan and sub-Saharan families. Finally, a forum was organized to draw up recommendations for presentation to the institutions involved in migration in the Eastern region.
